Monday, 23rd February 2004 (8942 views) Sharjah Municipality has established a new gold assay laboratory in its technical test complex.<BR/> <BR/>The new facility, which will enable the public to get their gold tested, is due to start operating shortly and is expected to increase customer confidence in gold purchased in Sharjah.<BR/> <BR/>Many consumers admitted that they did not know much about gold and were forced to rely on the word of salesman in gold shops.<BR/> <BR/>Gold dealers claim the testing facility will create more confidence among customers and have called for laboratories at ports to check gold before it enters the country.<BR/> <BR/>However, some detractors have argued that the new laboratory could place suspicion in people's minds, as UAE had always had a good reputation for gold.<BR/> <BR/>Sharjah Municipality has announced that it is planning a laboratory at the Gold Centre this year, where buyers, traders and jewellery companies will be able to test their gold for a nominal fee.
