Oscars set for a night of glitz, glamour and gold

Tuesday, 24th February 2004 (4653 views)

Gold is proving popular on the red carpets of Hollywood, with stars at the Oscars expected to wear jewellery made from the precious metal to make their fashion statements.

Viewed as a key event to make an impression, the Oscars are the worst time for celebrities to make fashion faux pas.

Jewellery industry experts such as Carol Brody, a spokeswoman for jeweller Harry Winston, say they are anticipating that this year will be more light, flirty and feminine but of course still remaining very expensive and of a high quality.

Most popular with stars at the moment are cuff bracelets and rope necklaces, as well as 'right-hand rings' - yellow gold cocktail rings set with big stones.

Since past years have been dampened by events such as the September 11 attack, full-on glamour is a must for stars this year, in America's most watched fashion event, according to Reuters.

“Because of the red carpet being rolled up last year, we should expect all-out glamour this year,” said Patty Fox, author of Star Style at the Academy Awards and official Academy Awards fashion coordinator.

Whatever trend setting outfits are seen, it is certain that they will be set off with a host of sparkling jewellery, with items usually provided by the world's top jewellers especially for the day.
