The Bahraini capital governor has called on Indian and Pakistani jewellers in the state to consider a plan to bring their gold workshops under one roof.

Shaikh Humood bin Abdulla Al Khalifa met a group of leading Indian and Pakistani businessmen to discuss various issues facing the jewellery trade, including the recent incidents of theft in some workshops. Indian Ambassador Bhaskar Kumar Mitra and Deputy Governor Mubarak Al Fadhel were also present at the meeting, held at the Capital Governorate.

Shaikh Humood suggested locating all the workshops under one roof, with proper security measures in place, and pledged to help the jewellers realise such a plan, the Gulf Daily News reports.

"Such a complex should be located in an area which may be assigned by the government for similar businesses," he said. "If the jewellers share the capital required for the project, we shall also help them through financial institutions in the country."

Shaikh Humood added that he would be happy to receive businessmen and other expatriate community leaders at a majlis at the Governorate on the third Wednesday of every month, in order to improve channels of communications between the Governorate and the community.

Leading Indian businessmen Baboo Kewalram and Mohammed Hussain Malim welcomed the meeting and told the GDN: "We were all honoured to meet the Capital Governor and his words of encouragement and advice were reassuring to the entire community."
