Collections by jewellery designer Alpana Gurjal are to go on show in the US for the first time.

The collection which contains gold jewellery pieces is made of 150 items priced between $240 and $5,000.

Ms Gujral told IANS: "Increasingly, the US market for Indian jewellery is booming and there is substantial demand. My style is to take authentic, traditional Indian designs and give them a contemporary new look. Sort of modernise them so that they appeal to a larger group of people."

Ms Gurjal believes she uses a traditional Indian approach by making gold jewellery something to be treasured and an investment which "can be passed from generation to generation".

The daughter of celebrity painter Satish Gujral has been designing jewellery for 25 years, her collection will be on show for two weeks.
