The latest gold rush area in Compostela Valley is in the middle of a battle between mining firms.

At least two big mining companies have now claimed they have mining rights for Mt De Oro in Barangay village, according to the Inquirer News Service.

Governor Jose Caballero reportedly told a local radio station that Apex Mining and North Davao Mining both claim to have rights.

The ability for gold mining in the area was only discovered a few weeks ago when trekkers were scaling the site, following this hundreds of miners have flocked to the area.

Mr Caballero claimed he had taken action with the Provincial Mining Regulatory Board (PRMB) and asked it to take measure to ensure "chaos" does not occur in response to the claims.

It is thought the provincial government will want to prevent any dispute since it expects small-scale miners will not agree with the claims.
