A new museum in North America is displaying a host of quality golden items.

The new $2 million Antiochian Heritage Museum in North America opens to the public today offering items of beauty available for everyone to see such as breathtaking jewellery.

Rev. Timothy Ferguson, curator of the museum explained to Post-Gazette: "These aren't just museum-quality items. They're precious things that real people made good use of."

Among the items showcased is Azzie Akel's wedding dress, which was made by four Constantinople seamstresses. A purple velvet gown, the dress is trimmed with gold embroidery and the veil is a web of gold.

In addition the walls are lined with fine icons from all over the Orthodox world, which are metallic thank-yous or testimonies to cures or answered prayers, shiny with gold leaf.

The new museum and its content is the result of more than 30 years of fund raising and expansion.
