US jewellers have been welcoming the current trend in male consumers to buy themselves jewellery.

The items purchased are not just plain pieces either with glamourous studs and precious stones and metals all appealing to male workers in America, according to the Tribune.

"Players like everything as flashy as possible," explained Helain Pesis, owner of Continental Diamond in St. Louis Park, where Kevin Garnett and many other professional athletes buy their bling.

"Men are buying themselves rings, bracelets, pendants, just because they like the looks of it. It's fun to have men going for something other than wedding rings," Ms Pesis added.

Jewellers have seen that although average men begin with a signature watch, many male shoppers are still picking the diamond-encrusted and 'souped-up' versions that previously only celebrities went for.

Gold is a popular metal of choice with men, with the fashion-conscious also buying themselves necklaces and cufflinks.
