UK jeweller helping divorcees move onFriday, 23rd July 2004 (4493 views) A Keswick jeweller is offering an alternative idea for unwanted wedding rings created by a split - the divorce ring.Visitors to Necessary Angel can take in their old wedding ring and have it melted down and changed into a new piece of jewellery to commemorate the split. Jewellers Deborah Cowin and John Walker were first approached to create the ring around three years ago and since then the demand for the item is booming. Ms Cowin told the Times & Star: "People who come to me want their rings made into something totally different, they often ask for strong and bold designs. I thought the first divorce ring would be a one-off. I think it is a cathartic experience for them and a way of making the final break." Often customers get both their engagement and wedding ring melted and moulded together to create a new piece. The process of creating the new pieces costs around £500 and involves the diamonds being removed from the rings and then re-set in new designs with the melted down metal or new gold or platinum.
