Work at the Samira Hill gold mine by Canadian miner Etruscan Resources and Semafo is reportedly on schedule and on budget.

The firms have now revealed that the official opening ceremonies for the site in Niger, West Africa, are due for October 5.

At present gold reserves at the mine stand at 10,073,626 tonnes, with annual production set to be around 135,000 ounces for the first year.

Overall, the mine is hoped to produce an average 100,000 ounces of gold a year.

Following the now complete pre-stripping, plant and mechanical work at the site, the mine's first gold pour is set to occur in early September.
