Golden designs impress Gucci

Thursday, 29th July 2004 (5528 views)

An Australian jeweller impressed Gucci so much with his use of gold and opal that he has been commissioned to craft a necklace for Elisabetta Gucci.

Brisbane jeweller Bruce Tully is now creating a piece for the great granddaughter of the founder of the luxury goods group.

He told The Australian: "I want to do for opal what Paspaley has done for pearls, and De Beers for diamonds."

The jeweller's designs which can cost up to $30,000 each, include opal pendants threaded onto to gold necklaces.

"I like his pieces - they're colourful, joyful… Opal isn't very well known outside Australia, but Bruce has made me appreciate its true value," said Florentine socialite Ms Gucci.

The Depazzi design company was first launched in 2002 by Mr Tully.
