Wednesday, 25th August 2004 (4387 views) Canada based Glamis Gold has announced it has begun mining the first of a selection of open pits at its new Millennium Project.<BR/><BR/>The new project is situated south of the Marigold Mine, where final gold processing will take place.<BR/><BR/>Marigold's general manager, Dave Cook, told Elko Daily Free Press: "We've actually started mining the most easterly pit, Target 1. We're finalising things to get all the construction going."<BR/><BR/>In addition, mining is also taking place in another zone at Marigold as part of the project, with 160,000 tonnes being mined per day, according to Mr Cook.<BR/><BR/>However, although gold production was recently reported to be increasing, the actual expansion is around two months behind.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3276921"/>
