Jewellery shows add sparkle to NYC

Manhattan is enjoying some of America's rich jewellery tradition, with two museums currently laying on shows on the same block.<BR/><BR/>The American Folk Art Museum is running its "Masterpieces of American Jewellery", while the Museum of Arts and Design is dedicating a show exclusively to New York jewellery designer and producer Seaman Schepps.<BR/><BR/>In the American Folk Art Museum visitors can see as many as 200 pieces, some of which date back to the 18th century.<BR/><BR/>Stand-out items include a stunning gold bracelet with the moniker 'G R Chicks' - a symbol of the Grand Rapids Chicks, a female baseball team begun in the Second World War.<BR/><BR/>A Tiffany-inspired American flag from the turn of the 19th century is also on display, comprised of gold, diamonds, rubies and sapphires.<BR/><BR/>The Museum of Arts and Design show runs a narrower course, but showcases a wide range of Seaman Schepps' work in the context of “New York Jewellery Design".<BR/><BR/>Curator David McFadden said he drew on the firm's archive, as well as private collections.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=3437419"/>
