Gold to set the style this autumn

Friday, 17th September 2004 (4427 views)

Gold is set to be the fashion accessory of the winter, according to a leading industry analyst.

Deuvall O'Steen, public-relations and promotions manager for the World Gold Council in New York, says that the autumn collection of fashions are already hinting at the role gold will play in the coming season.

O'Steen says accessories are experiencing a renaissance, with gold set to capitalise.

"As the fashion world returns to fabulous, rich, vibrant colours, yellow gold complements those colours much better than white metals," he told Arizona Republic.

"As a culture we're adorning ourselves in clothes and colours and accessories that are meaningful, colourful and that make people feel good."

O'Steen went on to identify jewellery with movement - dangling earrings, or large bangles and gold chains - as the dominant theme for jewellery this autumn.

Gold sales hit $16.3 billion in the US alone in 2003, according to figures from the World Gold Council.
