Victoria gold mining on the up

Monday, 27th September 2004 (3329 views)

Victoria in Australia is said to be experiencing a gold rush as strong gold prices and improved technology help boost projects and exploration.

According to The Age, exploration funding is up in the area and three projects are already under way to mine for gold.

Latest figures have shown that gold exploration in Victoria has boomed to the highest level since 1996-1997 to approximately $41 million.

Among the new gold projects underway in the area are exploration by Bendigo Mining, Ballarat Goldfields and Perserverance.

It is thought that once the three projects were finished Victoria would be producing close to 800,000 ounces, according to the Victorian Minerals and Energy Council.
