New Zealand designer creates jewels for walls

Wednesday, 29th September 2004 (4773 views)

A new exhibition is New Zealand is offering something a little different as its creator designs wall jewellery.

The designs are described as "uniquely intricate" and are made from gold and silver on ceramic tiles, built up in layers to create mosaic-like images.

Work by Katherine Strevens has now gone on display in her first commercial exhibition La Natura, according to the New Zealand Herald.

The exhibition is said to celebrate the renewal of life and includes 18 pieces - made up of still lifes of fish, insects, fruit and vegetables.

Ms Strevens describes her work as "jewellery for the walls" and adds in different colours along with gold to make designs more interesting.

Although she is planning to make some changes for her next exhibition, Ms Strevens claims she will still continue to use gold and silver as it adds a good effect to her pieces which can take up to three weeks to complete.
