First Indian gold souk ready for opening

Thursday, 21st October 2004 (4793 views)

India's first gold souk is due to open on Friday and is promising to offer the same experience as shopping for the precious metal in Dubai.

Situated in Gurgaon, the outlet will offer lifestyle accessories and will be followed by nine other souks within the next three years.

Surendra Gupta, chairman and managing director of Aerens Gold Souk International told Indo Asian News Service: "So far around 65 percent of the souk's retail space has been leased out or sold with about 70 retailers including 35 major national and international brands set to start business when we open for retail operations."

The souk will have branded jewellery and established names in the sector from areas such as Jaipur, Kolkata and Mumbai.

Aerens claims that the gold souk "will provide jewellers opportunity to expand without investing too much into real estate development".

As well as the jewellery items on sale, the gold souk hopes to provide "a platform for young budding graduates of the jewellery designing institutes".
