IJD going global

Tuesday, 26th October 2004 (4879 views)

The International Jewellery Dubai (IJD) show could go global if talks between senior officials and organisers are successful.

IJD, the Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) and the Dubai Gold and Jewellery Group (DGJG) are hoping to bring the show's status to a global level and are aiming to make changes in time for this year's show.

DWTC director-general Helal Saeed Khalfan Al Marri told Only Punjab: "With Dubai playing an increasingly important part in the worldwide gold and jewellery trade, thanks to its strategic position and strong trade ties with the region, an exhibition like International Jewellery Dubai has tremendous scope for growth."

Discussions are the beginning of a strategic scheme by the groups for the event that showcases the latest trends in the industry, gold jewellery, costume and finished jewellery and manufacturing tools and machinery.

It is hoped this year's IJD show, being held from December 6-10 could be put on the same level as Basel and Vicenza.

At present there are around 110 manufacturers of gold and jewellery in the UAE, producing around 20-25 tonnes of gold jewellery each year.
