The number of producing mines in Alaska is set to soon double and the Alaska Miners Association has predicted that gold production could increase by around 250,000 ounces a year.<BR/><BR/>According to the Alaska Journal, there are currently three producing hard rock mines in Alaska but this could soon increase to six.<BR/><BR/>Mines that are set to open are the Rock Creek gold project near Nome, Nixon Fork gold-copper-silver mine near McGrath and the reopened Kensington gold project north of Juneau. <BR/><BR/>Plans were revealed as part of the annual convention of the Alaska Miners Association, held earlier this month.<BR/><BR/>Previous drilling work at all the sites has produced positive results and gold resources at a number of the sites are already thought to be high.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7137246"/>
