Signet set for good Christmas results

Wednesday, 24th November 2004 (4610 views)

Jewellery firm the Signet Group has released latest sales results and reported a 2.8 per cent rise in like-for-like sales during the 13 weeks to October 30.

Additional figures show that total sales during the period reached $543 million, an increase of 6.1 per cent.

Both the UK and US businesses performed well, with like-for-like sales in the US and the UK up by 3.5 per cent and 1.6 per cent accordingly.

Terry Burman, group chief executive, told Tacy: "We are pleased with the group's performance for the first nine months of the year. Further progress was made in the third quarter against the background of challenging trading conditions.

"While our businesses on both sides of the Atlantic face demanding comparatives they are well positioned to compete over the Christmas season."

Sales were boosted by merchandise ranges in the US such as the Leo Diamond assortment and the expansion of fashion gold jewellery created with the World Gold Council.

Customer service has also been improved, whilst in the UK new H Samuel and Ernest Jones stores are expected to increase sales further.
