Gold is being used in an unusual and unexpected way in Korea recently, as the new trend with parents is to have their child's umbilical cords plated with gold.<BR/><BR/>In the society, family values are seen as particularly important and the closest way for parents to mark their love for their newborn child is now to preserve the umbilical cord in acrylic resin or have it gold plated.<BR/><BR/>One company U&I Impression told Reuters that it had gold plated around 80 to 100 umbilical cords per month since starting business in August.<BR/><BR/>Prices for the service range from $76 to $96 and mail order services are also available.<BR/><BR/>Parents in Korea are allowed by law to keep their children's umbilical cord and many used to just keep them in storage or in a special album.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7200652"/>
