A gold ring specially designed for the Pomona High School class of 1978 in Denver, US has made a miraculous reappearance 27 years after its owner lost it down the toilet.

The ring, whose symbolism was extremely special for its owner Jerry Duran, was fished out of a sewer by the Arvada Wastewater Division shortly before Christmas, reports the Denver Post.

The gold ring with aquamarine stone was then returned to its happy but surprised owner this week following rigorous cleaning.

Mr Duran said the return came "much to my surprise" 27 years after the unhappy event when he dropped it into the toilet bowl.
