A new report has suggested that many women may have been left disappointed this Valentine's Day.

According to a survey by MVI Marketing, 90 per cent of women want fine jewellery for Valentine's Day, yet many men believe that they want lingerie (92.6 per cent).

When questioning the same women, they all said that fine jewellery was in fact a good gift for any gift-giving occasion, according to National Jeweler.

Jewellery constantly appears to lead women's preferences for the romantic occasion, with figures from Jewelry.com also showing jewellery was the gift of choice.

However, whether women actually receive the gold necklace, earrings or bracelet they want, or whether they will have to purchase the items themselves is another matter.
