Assocham calls for change to gold regulations

Thursday, 17th February 2005 (2829 views)

The Associated Chambers of Commerce & Industry of India (Assocham) is calling for new rules for global gold refineries.

According to Assocham, the government should allow global gold refineries to set up their shops in India, according to the Financial Express.

The refineries would then be able to recycle huge stocks of gold jewellery and scrap worth around Rs 9 lakh crore.

In addition, the companies could also open up gold retailing to buyers overseas.

Assocham also wants restrictions on overseas business for gold mining to be removed.
