Wednesday, 23rd February 2005 (6268 views) The annual Bangkok Gems and Jewellery fair opened on Monday to announcements of huge growth in the industry, according to National Jeweler.<br/><br/>Extended from the usual five days to six, the fair will bring around 3,000 exhibitors and an expected 30,000 visitors to the Impact Exhibition and Convention Centre in Bangkok.<br/><br/>Official statistics show that Thailand's 2004 exports of gems and jewellery increased by over five per cent since 2003, exceeding $2.6 billion.<br/><br/>Export demand from the United States, Thailand's biggest market, grew by 16 per cent over the previous year - totalling $718 million.<br/><br/>Thailand Minister of Commerce, Watana Muangsook, commented that the figures "were accomplished even with an array of importune incidents" that have affected other areas of the economy in Southeast Asia.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7868895"/>
