Male market creates new opportunities for jewellers

Jewellery retailers are being advised to launch more jewellery items for men, since experts believe it is a key area of opportunity for the industry.<br/><br/>Latest research shows that men are developing a strong fondness for fine jewellery and the industry should focus on female gift-givers and male self-purchasers, according to National Jeweler.<br/><br/>Luxury marketing firm Unity Marketing claims that last year men's jewellery made up around 11 per cent of the $57.4 billion jewellery market.<br/><br/>However, nearly all of these sales saw men buying items for themselves.<br/><br/>In addition, many men claim that they have previously bought jewellery for themselves after purchasing an item for a woman.<br/><br/>It is thought the move towards male jewellery has been encouraged by the bling look, the return of business formalwear and the idea of the metrosexual male.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7876864"/>
