Friday, 25th February 2005 (5981 views) The Independent Jewelers Organisation (IJO) has revealed sales were strong this year at its spring show, with large numbers of exhibitors and buyers.<br/><br/>Taking place at the Austin Convention Center, the show ran from February 19th to 22nd and included 560 independent retailers and 178 suppliers.<br/><br/>The key points of this year's show were the "family atmosphere", the show's energy and efficiency.<br/><br/>This year jewellery was displayed on tables at waist level and not in showcases, a move to help tempt buyers.<br/><br/>Allen Lipscher, owner of Global Diamonds in Chicago, told National Jeweler: "Nothing happens here by accident. [IJO] is run by professionals dedicated to sales and marketing. <br/><br/>"They invented this system. This show is conducive to buying and selling." <br/><br/>Retailers claim that IJO is particularly effective because of the attention they receive, whereas at other shows there is often a huge amount of merchandise which creates a much more competitive atmosphere.<br/><br/>In addition, the programme of educational seminars and idea sharing clinics also proved popular with participants.<img src="http://directnews.dehavilland.co.uk/dn.gif?feedid=196&itemid=7882815"/>
