Extravagant jewellery is no longer the preserve of women, with the craze for men's jewellery really taking off. Although male jewellery has always been available, it tended toward the subtle or understated, but as Indian fashion is proving, some male extravagance is certainly cool.

Several Indian jewellers inspired by a trend for traditional jewellery, have launched new lines of lavish male products comparable to the outlandish pieces worn by Indian women.

Pieces made for this collection include diamond necklaces, pendants, turban ornaments and broaches as well as more regular items like chains and bracelets. Also emphasised are brighter, regal colours with much closer attention being paid to striking designs.

The manufacturers of the line, Satramdas Dhallamal say that men are no longer tending toward simple pieces, but are drawn instead to the elaborate, the irregular and the unique.

All the pieces are geared toward the wedding season with the spectacular Indian weddings enjoying a popular renaissance.
