A new online book hopes to help consumers get value for money when buying an engagement ring.

Buying an engagement is generally a large investment, and something that most people will not do too often so the risk of making a poor purchase is great.

How to Buy an Engagement Ring: Without Getting Ripped Off! offers consumers advice on what to look for, where to go and how much to pay.

The book contains advice on the four C's (colour, clarity, cut and carat) and what to look for in platinum, yellow gold and white gold bands.

It goes on to cover manipulative sales techniques, bargaining and insurance.

Author John Yasmer hopes the publication will help people select and purchase their perfect ring, at a price that is right.

"Consumers will be amazed at the subtle, yet powerful ways jewelers manipulate them into spending more. This eBook will help them to defend against these techniques and avoid spending too much," said Mr Yasmer.
