Ancient gold worldwide expo plannedWednesday, 30th March 2005 (3186 views) The Nimrud gold is to go on display in a secret location in Europe, according to The Times Online. The gold items, once belonging to Assyrian queens and princes have never been seen out of Iraq and even then it is a rare occurrence. The fine and ancient jewellery will be loaned to Britain for a new exhibition but so far the exhibition opening venue has been kept secret. Dating from the 8th century BC, the treasure was found in the north-west Palace of Nimrud in the late 1980s. It is hoped the worldwide tour will raise over $10 million for the National Museum in Baghdad, the biggest victim of Iraq looters. The exhibition is set to open on October 23rd and will tour for five years to eleven other cities in Europe, North America and the Far East. Around 300 items will be displayed in The Gold of Nimrud: Treasures of Ancient Iraq expo and loan discussions have been held with the British Museum and Royal Academy.
