Desert Sun announces first gold pourWednesday, 30th March 2005 (3183 views) Desert Sun Mining has now poured the first gold from its Jacobina Mine in north-eastern Brazil.Development ore processing began in early March and around 50,000 tonnes have been milled to date. Gold from production ore is set to begin later in the second quarter. Bruce Humphrey, Desert Sun's CEO, said: "This gold pour is the culmination of months of work by the dedicated team of people who are responsible for the smooth development of this project. "We are proud to announce this pour in the first quarter of 2005, ahead of schedule. We will continue mine commissioning and expect to ramp up to steady state annual production of 100,000 ounces of gold by the third quarter of this year, and will focus on our development projects that could facilitate a production expansion in 2006 and 2007." Desert Sun is based in Canada and owns the Jacobina Mine and the Bahia Gold Bet, both in north-eastern Brazil.
