India's Mehta Jewellery has launched a new collection today for Akshya Trithiya.

The collection of gold and diamond pendants, chains, bangles and earrings have been created for the special festival, which is linked with the Goddess Lakshmi.

According to Indian tradition purchasing gold on this day will lead to people getting more and more gold for the rest of the year.

The Chennai company is opening from 8:30GMT to 0:00GMT on the special day so that customers have longer to purchase the gold.

Mehta is based in T Nagar and is well known for its gold and diamond jewellery.

Akshya Thrithya falls on May 11th this year.
