A collection of rare Tibetan treasures are to go on display in San Francisco's Asian Art Museum.

The 200 rare treasures are being showcased to offer an insight into culture and beliefs in Tibet.

Tibet: Treasures from the Roof of the World, will run until September 11th, with jewellery and other gold items forming part of the collection, according to the Marin Independent.

Co-curator, Richard W Clark, said: "Many of these objects are the finest examples of their type. They were mostly made for the Dalai Lamas, and many were gifts from kings and emperors."

The exhibition takes place over three large, ground floor galleries and features bowls, daggers, costumers and lacquered boxes decorated in turquoise, red and gold.

One item that has been described as the key piece of the collection is a gold Five Buddha Crown, made in the early 20th century and consisting of five main segments representing each of the Buddhas.
