Paul Bierker, who is developing the company with his wife and is already vice president at Ingenious Design jewellers, said: "Dogs aren't just household companions. They're children in a lot of homes." A number of pet-friendly pieces have already been designed by the firm, with Oprah Winfrey and her dog Sophie already popular clients. Decorations for dogs are becoming increasingly popular in America, with other companies such as 14K-9 in Colorado, offering dog bracelets, earrings and rings. Jan Berger, who runs the company with her husband, explained: "We even made a $2,800 solid-gold collar for a bulldog. It was over 2 feet long." Celebrities are not only fans of the jewellery but are also moving into the pet jewellery market themselves, with Jennifer Lopez and Paris Hilton both launching collections.
