Azerbaijan yields 4 new gold deposits

Tuesday, 28th June 2005 (3242 views)

Four new gold deposits have been discovered in Azerbaijan over the past three years, according to a minister from the country.

The Azerbaijan minister for ecology and natural resources, Huseyn Baghirov, said that geological research had revealed the four gold deposits among 30 new fields of precious metals.

According to Mr Baghirov, the largest deposit is at Chovdar in Dashkasan district, where reserves are estimated to be as large as those of the three other fields put together.

The minister said that there was considerable foreign interest in both the Chovdar field and the Bashkand deposit in Nakhchivan, which is estimated to contain between 300 and 350 tonnes of gold.

Exploration and development of the deposits will begin when an agreement has been reached, Mr Baghirov told Baku Today.track
