Russian goldfield to produce 1,000 tonnes

Tuesday, 28th June 2005 (3291 views)

The Natalkinskoye goldfield in north-east Russia is expected to produce more than 1,000 tonnes of gold over the next 50 years, according to local government officials.

Representatives of the regional government told RIA Novosti yesterday that open-pit mining will begin at Natalkinskoye by 2010.

About 40 million tonnes of ore, with a gold content of 1.7 grams per cubic metre, is expected to be recovered from the deposit, with this figure expected to grow annually.

Underground extraction operations were suspended at Natalkinskoye in June 2004. Guidelines for a renewed open-pit operation are now being established.

Natalkinskoye lies in one of Russia's major gold-producing areas, along the Pacific coast of Siberia.track
