Tuesday, 19th July 2005 (4027 views) Oxiana Ltd has reported a second quarter rise of 75 per cent on the amount of gold it has produced.

The second-biggest Australian gold miner by market value, said the increase had been helped by the expansion of its Sepon plant in Laos.

In the three months ending June 30th, gold production rose from 31,359 ounces a year ago to 54,906 ounces this year.

The Melbourne-based company also produced 7,355 metric tons of copper during the second quarter.

As well as its Sepon project in Laos the increased production has been boosted by work at the Prominent Hill in South Australia.

As a result shares in Oxiana are heading for the biggest gain in two months.

"The shares have risen on a couple of things. There has been good exploration at Sepon, they have added gold resources at Prominent Hill and the production report was not bad,' explained Keith Williams, a Melbourne-based analyst at Wilson HTM Investment Group.
