Hispanic fashion inspires gold K-mart lineTuesday, 19th July 2005 (4772 views) Kmart's new line of summer and autumn clothes has been inspired by the Latina look.Bright colours and extra-large gold hoop earrings are back in fashion thanks to the influence of Hispanic styles. This autumn's Thalia Sodi Collection includes a range of burnt-out velvet tops and sweaters with metallic thread. There is also the gold hoop earrings and armfuls of gold bangle bracelets that are so distinctive of the style. The line is being overseen by the Mexican-born pop singer, Thalia, who says: "There are tons of stereotypes out there, but young Latina women in the fashion market are young, fresh and full of ideas. "Maybe we're a little more colourful. And there's always a little spice, a little flavour and something flirty." Kmart is going strong on the Thalia brand, expanding its presence from 335 stores when it launched in 2003 to more than 1,400. But she added: "I don't want others to be afraid of my clothes as 'too Latin' or 'too weird'." Thalia first started designing fashion in 1993 when she created a line of lingerie. Since then her Kmart deal has taken off and the collection has now expanded to include womenswear, childrenswear, eyewear, jewellery, shoes and other accessories.
