Exploration for Slovakian gold to go aheadThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 28th July 2005 (4339 views) Eastern Mediterranean Resources Public (EMED) has been granted an exploration license in Slovakia.

The license covers a large section of the Stiavnica-Hodrusa mineral district in Slovakia and EMED will be the first company to test systematically for large bulk-mineable, near-surface disseminated styles of mineralisation in the region.

According to Mining Weekly, the Cyprus-based group has also been granted a license over the Zlatnicky prospect in Slovakia, where gold mineralisation has been discovered at surface, though the area has seen little past production or exploration.

EMED managing director Harry Anagnostaras-Adams said: "Stiavnica-Hodrusa is a world-class mineral district with huge historical polymetallic production. Remarkably, it has not been tested for several mineralisation styles that are prominent in major mines internationally, especially near-surface disseminated gold styles such as the porphyry-skarn type of mineralisation."

"Our entry into Slovakia has been a text-book case of investment being facilitated by a well organised regulatory and national administrative system," he added.

Underground mines in the Stiavnica-Hodrusa mineral district have yielded an estimated total of 2,4-million ounces of gold from narrow veins.
