Friday, 26th August 2005 (4035 views) An exposition called 'The Golden Horde. History and Culture' is to open in Kazan, Russia.<br/><br/>This will be a first for the city as branches of the St Petersburg State Hermitage were previously only located in the capital itself, Las Vegas, London and Amsterdam.<br/><br/>The Golden Horde was a Tatar state established around 1378 and associated with Genghis Khan and the items on display were made between the 13th and 15th centuries.<br/><br/>Among the exhibits are a belt set fabricated from gold and silver, the 'Jenghiz Stone' and 328 decorative gold and silver items such as vessels, p'ai-tzu, coins and jewellery from the Simpheropol hoard.<br/><br/>This is the largest exhibition of its kind on the contributions of medieval Turks, Mongolians and other locals to world art and culture.<br/><br/>In addition to the exhibition, visitors to the centre in Kazan will be able to use the information facilities and a school for restorers will also be based there.<br/><br/>The Golden Horde had connections to Byzantium, Western Europe and China, a country whose gold demand has recently risen.<br/>
