Singapore's first International Jewellery Show is expected to have over £100 million worth of sales.

The four-day event will showcase jewellery from over 150 exhibitors from 15 countries, and is expected to make Singapore a major centre for the jewellery industry.

Singapore's trade and industry minister Lim Hng Kiang, said: " We should capitalise on our strengths such as our strong reputation for high quality products at competitive prices; our retailers' good product knowledge; and our jewellery designs, which have had the chance to flourish because of our strong intellectual property laws."

He is urging the country's jewellers to compete to the best of their abilities with their counterparts in Hong Kong, Europe and China.

The event is expected to attract over 10,000 visitors.

The most expensive piece on display will be a £800,000 antique sword that has more than 200 carats of gems on the handle.
