A 24-carat gold raven sculpture is to be auctioned off on November 24th in Toronto.

Sculpted by Bill Reid, the Raven and the First Men is an important piece as it features on the Canadian banknote.

According to the Associated Press, it is two and three-quarter inches tall and one of five editions.

The First Nations sculpture is based on Haida myth, which recounts how a raven found a giant clam filled with man's predecessors, then tiny humans.

Mr Reid died in 1998 but his legacy has lived on, as no less than four of his designs appear on Canadian banknotes.

Auctioneers are expecting a lot of interest and it has a reserve price of CN$175,000.

Reid' sculptures have come up for auction before and in 2002 his Killer Whale made of bronze sold for CN$414,000.
