Puskas' golden boot sold

Friday, 28th October 2005 (4409 views)

Hungarian football legend Ferenc Puskas has been forced to sell off the golden boot he received after scoring 83 goals during 84 games.

Memorabilia from his sporting days was due to go under the hammer at Bonhams to pay for the ageing player's hospital bills.

However, following a private agreement between the auction house and Hungarian business Orszagos Szaknevsor BT the items will stay in Hungary.

In addition to the golden boot, the company has purchased several medals that Mr Puskas won.

It will be donating his gold pocket watch and his seal ring to Mr Puskas' wife, reports the Canadian Press.

It is expected that a Football Hall of Fame will be built in Budapest to display the items.

In August a charity football match was played in Budapest to raise money towards the football legend's medical bills.
