1,700 year-old gold bracelet unearthed

Wednesday, 23rd November 2005 (4182 views)

An ancient gold bracelet of unknown origins has been discovered in an ancient tomb in east China.

The tomb is thought to date back to an eminent family of the Eastern Jin Dynasty between 317AD and 420AD. It was discovered during a road construction project in Zhulong Village of Dangtu County in Anhui.

Found alongside the gold bracelet were a silver ring, a bronze bowl and pieces of what is believed to be 1,700 year-old Roman glass.

The glass was probably imported from ancient Rome and carries distinctive shapes and craftwork, which are in keeping with Roman styles.

Pieces of the glass, along with the gold bracelet, have been sent to the University of Science and Technology of China in Anhui were they will undergo further investigation by the local cultural relic department.
