Yellow gold back in a big wayMonday, 28th November 2005 (4344 views) Yellow gold has become this season's must-have material, according to US fashion columnists.Although yellow gold was never really out, consumers often plumped for silver, platinum, or even white gold during the 1990s. But you can't keep a metal of gold's quality down for too long, with reports stateside that the yellow version of the metal will be adorning everything from handbags to shoes and sweaters this season. "We're seeing a huge resurgence for fall and winter," Helena Krodel of the Jewelry Information Center told the Baltimore Sun. "It started with the summer, with all of the bohemian trends and a lot of the ethnic looks. Yellow gold lends itself really well to a more ethnic look." Yellow gold's rebirth completes a difficult cycle for the material since the 1980s when it last found itself at the pinnacle of fashion. The low point of that sequence may well have come during an episode of the US sitcom Sex and the City, in which Sarah Jessica Parker's Carrie Bradshaw turned her nose up at a gold engagement ring given to her by her boyfriend. That was the 1990s, however, and recent snaps of Sarah Jessica Parker reveal the starlet is now a big fan of the precious metal. Experts also attribute the turnaround to the current high price of platinum which now costs nearly twice as much as gold.
