Dubai gears up for next gold extravaganzaTuesday, 29th November 2005 (4291 views) Just ten days after closing the doors on the MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show, Dubai is gearing up for its next big gold and jewellery extravaganza. The world-famous Dubai Shopping Festival will take place from January 4th to February 4th and will feature exhibits from the country's top jewellers. Organisers have promised that the show will be even glitzier than last year's event which pulled in an astounding 3.3 million visitors. The festival aims to match its reputation as one of the world's largest shopping events by running the globe's most opulent gold raffle. Some 32 kilograms of gold bars will be raffled off over the one-month period under the scheme. The show is well known for the breadth and depth of gold trinkets its exhibitors offer and visitors can choose between a scintillating collection of earrings, rings, necklaces, pendants and bracelets. Rugs, incense, Arabic perfumes and spices are among the other specialities on offer for those making the trip. In a bid to entice in even more punters this year, Emirates Airlines is offering special hotel packages starting from $56 per person per night.
