Gold jewellery contest deadline approachesTuesday, 13th December 2005 (4361 views) Jewellery designers are being urged to submit entries to the prestigious Pan-Arab Gold Jewellery Design Contest before the New Year. The competition, 'Al Ibda 'a Al-Hur', was launched in September and the organisers hope to receive "substantially" more entries than the 7,000 achieved last year. Sponsored by the L'Azurde and the World Gold Council, the contest aims to nurture the region's hottest designers and the eventual winner will receive a seven-ounce pure gold medal. "Al Ibda a Al-Hur offers Arab designers unique opportunity to create superb gold jewellery designs," the World Gold Council's Moaz Barakat told Trade Arabia. Designers who think they can translate the nuances of Arab culture into gold jewellery pieces can try their luck in any of three categories. Some may fancy their chances in the 'young and cool category', aimed at fashion youth wear. More mature designers may want to enter the 'bridal wear jewellery' sector or the 'Arabian Essence' category - which requires traditional designs for women updated with a modern twist. The best 30 designs - chosen by a panel of professional Arabic designers and celebrities - will then be manufactured in gold. The grand final will take place in June 2006.
