JFK gold watch under the hammerThe news feeds on this site are independently provided by Adfero Limited © and do not represent the views or opinions of the World Gold Council. Thursday, 15th December 2005 (5614 views) John F Kennedy's gold watch is going under the hammer at Guernsey's auction house in New York. The 35th president's opulent timepiece is just one of thousands of JFK memorabilia contained in the lot. The auction began this morning (December 15th) and will last for three days. The collection belonged to late JFK fan Robert White who amassed his treasure trove partly as a result of his friendship with JFK's PA Evelyn Lincoln. Ms Lincoln bequeathed Mr White her own collection upon her death and Mr White passed away himself two years ago. The no-minimum-bid auction is expected to raise between $5 million and $10 million. Only the John F Kennedy Presidential Library in Boston has a bigger collection of JFK memorabilia, meaning the auction will draw JFK fans from near and far. The gold watch is being billed as the centrepiece of the auction, with other vaunted items including JFK's rocking chair, his reading glasses and the flags from his presidential limousine. A watch reportedly given to the slain president by Marilyn Monroe as a birthday gift fetched $120,000 at an auction in October.
