"Saturday was noticeably busy. In fact we have been busy all week which is fantastic," said Robert Emslie of Robert Emslie Jewellers in Buchan. He added: "We have sold a lot of gold jewellery. Silver has been extremely popular for a number of years now but it seems gold in coming back." On the other side of the globe low interest rates have sparked high spending on gold jewellery in the South African city of Pretoria, according to iol.co.za. The website said that increased consumer confidence in the country had encourage more and more people to spend handsomely, whilst retail offers from city centre shops had also attracted shoppers into the city. Amongst the goods which have benefited from the festive holidays are chains, charms, gold jewellery and bangles.
