Gold jewellery tipped for top in 2006

Thursday, 29th December 2005 (4881 views)

Gold jewellery will be the height of fashion next year.

That's the view of top US fashion experts, who expect trinkets crafted from the yellow metal to fly off the shelves in 2006.

With 2005 drawing to a close, fashion-savvy consumers are rushing to replace their current wardrobes with the latest fashions.

And anyone in the know is opting for gold jewellery, experts told the Associated Press.

Chandelier earrings, chunky bangles and cuffs, and multi-length necklaces will be among the most popular gold items in the coming season.

The precious metal has already profited from a high street renaissance during the last few months.

But gold jewellery is expected to prove even more popular in spring, when it will complement the new lines of white and tan clothing due to hit the shelves.

Onlookers are also tipping leather jackets to come back in a big way.

In order to make room for the new styles, consumers will discard a flurry of garments and accessories whose faces no longer fit.

Despite being a hit last year, low-rise and tapered-leg jeans, for instance, are now firmly out of fashion.

The guidelines were issued by jewellery designer Jessica Fields, and clothing makers Worth and Ralsey and Cousin Johnny Knitwear.
