Wednesday, 25th January 2006 (5609 views) The Council for Responsible Jewellery Practices (CRJP) has announced the appointment of two new senior members of staff.Michael Rae has been named as new chief executive officer, while Santiago Porto will take over as programme director. Both will take up their positions in early February. Mr Rae will assume responsibility for recruiting members to the CRJB, communicating with stakeholders and supervision of the Responsible Business Framework. Meanwhile, Mr Porto will have to implement and monitor the CRJB's Principles and Codes of Practice. He will also offer guidance, education and training to CRJP members and their associates. Mr Rae used to work for the WWF (World Wildlife Fund) on collaborative efforts between mining companies and other organisations on verification of environmental, social and economic performance in the mining industry. "Michael's exceptional ability to bring industry, government and civil society together to work collaboratively on social and environmental issues makes him an ideal choice," said CRJP chairman Matthew Runci. Mr Porto was previously the membership development manager for the Ethical Trading Initiative, where he promoted international labour standards in footwear and clothing. "Santiago's background and his varied fieldwork experience have enabled him to develop a real understanding of the issues facing companies working together to embed ethical considerations into their supply chains," Runci said.
